The automobile industry of Uzbekistan is working on a project for large-block Assembly at the Derways plant in Karachay-Cherkessia of small cars, "nee" known as Chevrolet Spark. This was reported to TASS the Chairman of the Board of the company "Uzavtosanoat" ("Uzavtoprom") Bakhtiyor Umurzakov.
"Currently, the bilateral working group is working on a feasibility study (FS) for Karachay-Cherkessia, we try to calculate so that the project pays off, and the cars produced there are competitive and affordable, "Umurzakov said on the sidelines of the international forum" Localization-2019 " in Tashkent, held in order to deepen the localization of processes related to industrial production.
It should be noted that just the other day in Russia has already started selling inexpensive Uzbek subcompact Ravon R2, which is also, in fact, Chevrolet Spark. However, the Assembly of its "twin brother" is planned to be deployed in Karachay-Cherkessia under the brand Atlas – not related to the eponymous crossover of the Chinese brand Geely. And, according to the head of "Uzavtoprom", while we are talking only about the Spark model. "If permission is given for the production of other models, we will work on them," he said.
It is expected that the first Atlas cars will be assembled in Russia in the first quarter of next year. "After the feasibility study will be prepared, it will be necessary to obtain permission from General Motors, whose representatives must make sure that the conditions of Karachay-Cherkessia correspond to high – quality large-block Assembly", - said Umurzakov.
